"Lady Gaga" shipped to Grand Rapids, Michigan for ArtPrize 2011 -- artprize.org
My oil painting entitled “Lady Gaga” portrays the famous musician who re-invents fashion and performance and uses it to re-define the human form. It is my goal in this abstract, intuitive painting to achieve a similar transformation through the use of color, texture and scale.
The placement of color orchestrates the figure’s vibrancy. By the use of gold, pinks, blues and mauves, a deconstruction occurs and a metamorphosis is achieved.
This painting’s visual poetry pulsates with energy, which is relevant to Lady Gaga.
A playfulness compliments both my aesthetics and her sense of style and surprise.
Balance is achieved through harmony and movement. |

From the perspective of technique, Sera’s latest creations are an experiment that bridge the activity of drawing with the activity of painting. The content of the work takes inspiration from the patterns, colors and organization of cosmic phenomena and aerial views of urban and geological landscapes.
Stemming from Sera’s interest in landscapes and aerial views, the new paintings utilize the visual language of contours [horizontal lines that typically describe topography] and marry them with Sera’s fascination for physics and the universe. Abstract lines, dots and splatters of paint dance around each other. The work suggests cosmic events on many scales such as the congealing of nebulae, colliding particles and the birth of stars. These celestial events are viewed as abstracted landscapes in their own right, and these landscapes speak to the textures, geometries, movements and flows found in the various scales of spaces in which we inhabit: urban, natural and cosmic. |
